Bollywood’s Asoka is a version of the life of the Indian emperor Ashoka the Great, of the Maurya dynasty, who ruled much of South Asia from 273 BCE to 232 BCE. Kareena Kapoor stars a princess of Kalinga (an ancient kingdom in central-eastern India) in love with Ashoka.
